Flowering Ivy is an important evergreen self-clinging vine that has adventitious roots and can either be a flowering or non-flowering climber or ground-cover. Fast growing and good at screening an unsightly wall or fence, the vigorous ivy can even smoother a large tree so despite it’s significance for wildlife there are situations where it will need to be kept in check.
If you are fortunate enough to have a form of flowering Hedera helix you will notice that the time of year when there is very little nectar and pollen available. The flowering Ivy is an essential food source for late Autumn, Early Winter pollinators bees moths and insects that become active in the warming heat of a winters day.
