Magnolia Black Tulip puts on a spectacular Spring performance.

Having worked in horticulture for over 30 years it now takes a spectacular plant to really impress me and actually stop me to admire the show.

A gorgeous Magnolia soulangeana hybrid with the darkest burgundy flowers in early Spring is the first of several varieties to perform in a Cheshire garden.

Breathtaking upclose the velvety crushed purple tulip shaped blooms are as big as a child’s head and held tight with overlapping petals much like it namesake the tulip.

Often fragrant like Black Tulip Magnolias are showy and dramatic and stand out well against a dark or silver background.

Magnolia’s are admired the World over and have a loyal fan base that excites each year bursting into flower at approx the same time as the first Tulips.

Still considered one of the rarest Magnolia’s it is sure to be a show stopper for years to come. The Magnolias suffers few ailments but often causes frustration from the sheer mass of petal fall it creates, a small price to play for such a riotus Spring performance.
