Flowering in a January Garden – Love Winters Flowers in Bloom

Despite the Gail’s, snow storms and grey cloud filled skies, saturated soil and winter floods our favoured Winter Flowering shrubs continue to flower. Gardens with a sheltered location or the protection of established trees or shelter-belt are often rewarded with heart-warming flowers in January.

Plant lovers and gardeners adding interesting winter flowering shrubs to a garden design or border cannot go far wrong with identifying and choosing from my five favourite winter flowering shrubs for a sheltered location.

1. Daphne bholua ‘Jacqueline Postill’

2. Mahonia x media ‘Winter Sun’

3. Pieris japonica ‘Mountain Snow’ in early signs of bud, these long lasting snow white everlasting type flowers adorn the rounded evergreen mound of glossy green leaves, almost like tiny crystal bells.

4. Camellia sasanqua ‘Crimson King’

5. Polygala grandiflora
